"The City will not let me go. So as long as I'm still here, I will defend her!"

Who is Detective Helms?
Detective Corvin Helms is a man with an Enigma of a past. While he will often have answers regarding who he is and what he does, attempts to pry into that past will often be met with very few answers, either from the man himself or from other sources.

What can be said is that he has always been an inquisitive man, seeking the truth in any circumstance no matter how terrifying it may be or what cost might come to him. He is often affable and sarcastic when not on a job, though focus and worry will set him straight.

He's also usually drunk.

The Agency Itself
A small little hole in the outskirts of a city that's expanded far too quickly, the Helms Detective Agency was set up following his acclimation with new home. He lives and works from that downtrodden building, a one man operation dedicated to simply provide quality detective work, occasional killings, and diplomacy for sticky situations.

While his relationship with the law is a strained one due to the occasional illegality of his operations, Helms is willing and able to work with whatever constraints they might put in. Be it a police captain or a mafioso, all sides will be treated with general respect and care until the contract dictates otherwise.

Tools of the Trade
Helms is a simple man of simple tools. There are of course three main ones that he keeps around.

The first of which is his revolver. Six shots of high stopping power, whose profile is often enough to make people realize that they might want to think twice.

The second is his notebook, a constant reminder of those conversations and facts that he's managed to find and figure out, his impressions of those facts, and a proper record of the case.

The last are his Cards. The Cards are a curious case, a tarot of mysterious means. How he came about them he cannot say, though they have been a constant companion. Despite his attempts.

The City

Ah yes.

The Call of the City.

Helms will refuse to talk about it beyond mere reverence whenever it comes up. But be it a figment of a madman's mind or an actual truth, Helms has a connection to the City that he calls home. He can hear her pains, he can hear her needs, and it is a constant assault that refuses to leave his senses save for a few treasured moments.

Sometimes these calls are beneficial. A Shiver down the spine that points him in the right way. But sometimes one might find the detective caught in the throes of unbearable grief.
